Our teens attend discipleship training on Wednesday nights to help them learn that being a Christian is a lifelong commitment to God. Additional actitivies include dramas, camping, movie nights, helping with prison ministry, and other service ministries. They have fun and fellowship while developing character and strength to resist temptation. Youth have an opportunity to develop leadership skills by being in charge of the Sunday morning worship service on the fifth Sundays. Leaders are Shannon and Jonathan Abernethy.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.      Romans 8:35-39

Babes in Christ

The children of the church have fun while learning about faith, trust, honesty and God's love through various activities. They enjoy playing, praying and singing together as well as showing kindness to others.

Children meet weekly on Wednesday evening at 7pm. Teachers are Teresa Collius, Sharon Abernethy, Karen Edmondson and Eileen Artavia. Nursery teachers are Carrie Putnam and Katie Pope.

Helping Hands

In 1st Corinthians 13, the Bible teaches that we are to be the body of Christ and show faith, hope and love. The ladies of Mathis Chapel have a desire to fulfill this commandment. Mission projects include Forgiven Ministry's Adams Center and Ezekiels Room, Appalachian Backpacks, food backpack program at Catawba Elementary, Corner Table candy sale, Hospice, and many other missions sponsored by our church.

They meet on the first Monday night of the month at 6pm. The ladies are also discovering the essential truths upon which a wise woman builds her life and faith through a study of the book of Esther. The dramatic life of Queen Esther teachs vital lessons about choices, pride, faith and control.

Benevolence Committee members are Pastor Travis, Larry Carpenter and Miranda Pope. If any congregation member knows of or has a need, please bring it to the attention of a committee member.
